Privacy policy
Effective 11 October 2026
Macro Intent plans meals against the calorie and macro targets you set, on the web at app.macrointent.com and in the iOS and Android apps. This page says what we keep, why, who else handles it, and how to delete it. We don’t sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.
What we keep
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your sign-in: email address, name, and the sign-in method you used | To know which account is yours |
| Your profile: sex, age, height, weight and weigh-ins, activity, goal and pace | To suggest targets and show your progress |
| Your targets, preferences, foods, recipes and weekly plans, and what you log as eaten | This is the app |
| Photos of meals you add | To show them on your meals, and for the assistant to read when you send one in a chat |
| Your conversation with the assistant | So it can carry on a conversation; kept until you start a new chat |
What stays on your phone
- Steps from Apple Health or Health Connect are read only if you allow it, and only step counts. Today’s count is sent with a request so tips can account for it; we don’t store it. We never write to Apple Health or Health Connect, and health data is never used for advertising or shared with anyone.
- Voice: when you speak to the assistant, your phone’s own speech recognition (from Apple or Google) turns it into text. We receive only the text.
- Barcodes are read by the camera on your phone. Only the barcode number is sent, to look up the food.
The assistant and AI
The assistant is powered by Claude, an AI model from Anthropic. When you use it, what you type or say, photos you add, and the parts of your plan, targets and foods it needs are sent to Anthropic to produce a reply. Anthropic processes them on our behalf and does not use them to train its models. The apps ask before the first message. Macros and amounts are always worked out by our own code, not the AI.
Who else handles your data
Only these services, each to run part of Macro Intent:
- Auth0 (Okta): sign-in
- MongoDB Atlas: our database
- Amazon Web Services: hosting
- Anthropic: the assistant, when you use it
- Open Food Facts: food and barcode lookups. These lookups contain the search or barcode only, nothing about you.
We share data with no one else, except where the law requires it.
Keeping and deleting it
We keep your data until you delete your account. You can delete it at any time in the app (More → Delete account) or on the web (Settings → Delete account). That removes your plans, recipes, foods, photos, settings, assistant conversation and sign-in from our systems straight away. More on deleting your account.
Your rights
You can see and change almost everything we keep in the app itself. To ask for a copy of your data, or about anything on this page, email us at macrointent@gmail.com. Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have further rights to access, correct, move or delete your data, which we will honour.
Children
Macro Intent is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly keep data about them.
Not medical advice
Targets and suggestions are estimates for general wellness. They are not medical advice.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and its date, and tell you in the app if the change matters.
